This book is intended for students of the Computer Systems Administration Training Cycle, in particular the professional module Local Area Networks, although it will also be useful for students who study Technical Engineering in Computer Science.
It covers both the basics of data transmission systems and the aspects related to the management and configuration of local networks; i.e. types of cables, physical elements used in installations, communication protocols, interconnection with large area networks and all security-related issues.
The work also outlines configuration and management aspects of Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Novell NetWare network operating systems (the latter included on the attached CD-ROM, which also contains additional documentation on some topics not exposed in the book).
The chapters also develop exercises, with the aim of facilitating the assimilation of treated knowledge, and diverse literature, to investigate more specific subjects.
